Nature trail

To make a walk with the dog and the children a little more interesting I put together a nature trail for Madeline and she LOVED it! She loved looking for things, she loved walking round with a clipboard and she loved ticking off all the things she found, so cute.

I did a Google images search for plants, trees and insects that I thought would be quite easy to find on our walk, I found:

  • Clover
  • Blackberries
  • Nettles
  • Oak tree
  • Spider’s web
  • Bee
  • Woodlouse
  • Ladybird
  • Snail
  • Dandelion

I put all the pictures in a table in MS Word with the name and a check box and printed it out, I then used the side of an old cereal box as a clipboard and we were ready to go.

I was thinking how well this would work in Dubai, it’s so important to teach children about all the nasty spiders and harmful plants so a nature trail which includes these things would be a great way to educate children. I found Madeline and I were naturally talking about the plants and insects as we found them, such an interactive way to learn about nature.

Have a go and let us know how you get on.

  1. Great idea – did it today with the kids in the rain. We still had lots of fun though and I found myself telling them about various different plants!!
